The popular junior golf summer sessions are back at Hyannis Golf Course. Junior golfers ages 6-12 will meet on a weekly basis, Monday- Friday, from 8-10am. The kids receive a comprehensive golf experience and have a fun time seeing old friends and making new ones.

Get Golf Ready in 5 Days Summer Classes for juniors ages 13-17 and ADULTS, run weekly Monday-Friday from 11am-1pm. These instructional camps are designed to get you playing golf on the course quickly with an understanding of how to play the game, golf etiquette, and golf rules. The courses are a lot of fun and class size is 4-8 golfers. Beginners and advanced beginner golfers are welcome. Cost for the 10 hours of instruction is $100 for juniors and $200 for adults.

Instructional groups and camps and clinics are rolling well as well so let’s get golfing. Junior camps start with a kick off week of practice and play on April 16-20 during the local school April Vacation week. Ladies groups are gaining traction. These groups have a good time. This is the most popular formula for women’s golf training; Get a group of girls together. Pick a day and time that all agree upon. Call me (760-989-7531) or email and book the time.

Otherwise, the winter is a great time to work on swing technique and a golf fitness training program. I am happy to announce Donnellan Golf has teamed up with Fitness 500 Club in Hyannis, and will be offering a golf swing oriented training program designed to create powerful and balanced golf swings. There will be plenty of discussion about golf swing technique and how it relates to your golf swing and your body type.

The excercises are a little bit ‘East meets West’ and combine qi gong movements with weights and traditional strengthening programs. The total golf fitness program improves coordination of your golf brain and your golf body. My focus is on helping golfers create good, strong, confident golf swings.

Personal swing instruction is available on a group or individual basis. Free introductory classes are scheduled Thursday, December 15 from 8:00am- 9:00am and Saturday, December 17th from 9:30-10:30am. Max 8 people, first come first served.

The future of golf.

PGA Teaching Professional, David Donnellan, has added another award to go with his 2010 CCPGA Teacher of the Year honor. Donnellan was recognized by the Cape Cod PGA as the 2011 winner of the Junior Golf Leader award.

This award is designed to recognize a PGA Professional who is a leader in Junior Golf, reflects the ideals of those who work with the youth of the community and provides opportunities and experiences for juniors to learn and play golf. ‘It came as a big surprise to win this award and I am very happy to have done something positive for the town of Barnstable. This community has a long tradition of excellent youth sports and I would like to keep that spirit alive through junior golf.

My goal is to make golf an equally viable choice when the child is choosing a sport and Hyannis Golf Club has been a fantastic venue for developing fun junior programs. These juniors are learning how to play golf on the course, learning rules and etiquette, sportsmanship and fairness, in addition to golf swing basics. The golf industry is going through a paradigm shift right now so it is extremely important to recruit and develop golfers. Otherwise the future of this great sport will be bleak.’, says Donnellan.

The fall junior program will have a couple of rain dates coming up, Friday, November 4th from 3:30-5:00pm and Saturday, November 12, from 10:00- 12:00. All parents are invited to take part in the Saturday training so please bring your clubs and remember to dress appropriately for the weather. There has been some interest in continuing the junior golf training deep into the November and December months. If enough kids want to do it then junior training will be offered on Saturdays until weather says otherwise.
The juniors who have participated this year are becoming skilled, knowledgeable golfers. It is very fun to be a part of a group of kids who are so enthusiastic about the game of golf and I would like to say thank you to all the moms and dads for getting your junior involved.

On course lessons are becoming ever more popular among beginners as a great way to learn golf quickly. These group lessons are called Get Golf Ready and are a great value for the money, 10 hours of instruction for 199 dollars. Group size 2-8.

The junior golf schedule is set for the fall season at Hyannis Golf Course. We will be working on improving the playing skills, etiquette, pace of play and the basic rules and plan on lots of golf course time.

I will be offering a course on Fridays from 4-6pm. The Friday group starts September 16 and continues through October 21. All junior golfers are welcome. Fee: $100.

There will also be a Saturday group from 2-4pm. This course runs from September 10- October 29. All juniors are welcome. Fee: $150.

Juniors who are unable to attend every week are welcome to come when they can. Fee: $20 per day. Please email me to sign up your juniors. david@donnellangolf.com.

I look forward to working with all the junior golfers who took part in the summer camps and welcome any new golfers who want to try this great sport. These fall courses are for everybody so bring a friend along for a day.

On course lessons, women’s groups, corporate mixers and team building events were also popular. This fall, please put your group together and create a custom lesson to suit your golfing needs.

Autumn is also the time of year when I start playing in a few tournaments in the NEPGA and Cape Cod schedules starting today with the NEPGA Championship at Pinehills in Plymouth. It will be fun playing in my first competition of the season. My goal is to make the cut after two rounds.
